As many students might now be busy with booking the International Flights, I decided to share some insights on the things that you must keep in mind when you go ahead with your International Flight Booking. Booking an International Flight involves lots of things, especially since you are students, You must have an complete information before you book the flight. So here I will be sharing the things that you must consider while booking your International Flight.

Search Multiple Sites:
Many of you might be doing this, but still I thought of including this point. Make sure you have gone through each and every website before you book your International Flight. Apart from searching various travel websites like Expedia, Yatra, Makemytrip etc. You should also search the Official Website of that flight and compare the prices. Sometimes the prices in the official website of the flight are lesser than the other travel websites. For example, if you have decided to book British Airways, make sure you visit their official site and look at the prices they have mentioned.
Chat With Multiple Booking Agents: -
You should also chat with multiple booking agents before you book the international flight. Sometimes the agents may give you the best price as compared to the other websites. So just have a conversation with multiple booking agents to get an overview and finding the cheapest price for the flight.
Baggage Allowances: -
Officially you can have a maximum of 23 Kg for your Baggage (that you will not be carrying with you inside the flight) and a maximum of 7 Kg for Cabin Baggage (that you will be carrying with you inside the flight). Many Airlines have special offers if you are a student. They will allow you to carry extra one/two Baggages of 23 Kg. Here is a list of Airlines that provide Baggage Allowances: -
  • Jet Airways.
  • Air India.
  • British Airways.
  • Oman Airways.
  • Cathay Pacific.
  • Emirates.
  • Virgin Atlantic.
  • Qatar Airways.
  • China Airlines.
It’s always advisable to confirm with the website that you will be booking the flight about the extra baggage allowances. If they provide this allowance then go ahead or else look for other websites/agents. Confirm this allowance with the official airlines as well by calling their customer support.
 Check The Layover Time: -
If you do not have a direct flight to your destination place in the USA, then you mostly will be switching your planes at Europe. Make sure that you have sufficient time between the Arrival of your first plane and the Departure of your other plane. If you have a very less time, then it might happen that you miss the plane, which will put you in a lot of trouble. So while booking your international flight, check that you have a sufficient time gap between the two planes.

Try To Travel With One Airline Only:

This again is for students who do not have a direct flight to the destination place in the USA. Try to travel with the same airlines. Sometimes you may have to switch to totally different airlines at the halt in Europe or Abu Dhabi etc.
For Example: Let’s say you are going to Boston. You have booked Jet Airways. The Jet Airways will halt at Frankfurt, Germany. There you need to switch to a totally different Airline like United Airlines for travelling from Frankfurt to Boston. Below is an example of travelling with only one Airline.
For Example: Let’s say you are going to Boston. You have booked Jet Airways. The Jet Airways will halt at Frankfurt, Germany. Again you need to switch to a different Jet Airways flight to travel from Frankfurt to Boston.
Switching to a totally different Airline might cause you some trouble with respect to checking baggage’s again, if layover time is less than you might miss the flight etc.
Make Sure You Don’t Need Transit Visa: -
When you have multiple stopovers before you reach the final destination, make sure the place or places where you plane will halt doesn’t require Transit Visa. For Example: if your plane will halt anywhere in Canada, then you must require a transit visa. Similarly if your plane has multiple stopovers like in Amsterdam, Paris etc. which comes under European Union, in that case you will be detained in India itself for not having Shenzhen Visa regardless of the fact that you do not intend to exit the airport.
Port Of Entry: -
Port of Entry is the entry point of a country. I would suggest you all to get to your final destination in USA as your Port of Entry rather than any other place in USA unless you have relatives over those places. There could be a questioning done to you since you are trying to enter into a wrong city than what has been printed on your Visa. There is no specific rule that you should not get down in other cities, but it’s just a advice since you will be travelling for the first time to US alone.
